Cloud Shadow Studio and Fine Art Gallery, of Wakonda, is pleased to announce a very special photographic exhibition of black-and-white and infrared photography, by Paul Aiello, of San Juan Island, Washington. Known as ‘The Ansel Adams of the San Juan Islands’, for his stunning landscape and maritime photography, Paul’s work evokes a sense of timelessness, tranquility and awe.
Paul is a native of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and 40-year veteran of the art, whose love of photography began as a young man thrust into the hostilities of war in a foreign land... Drawn to the beauty of nature, as the antithesis of human violence, he found solace through the lens, searching out beauty and peace in the natural world.
“My journey into… photography started in Vietnam… with me buying a Yashica 35mm film camera… just putting it to my eye started my emotional connection to photography, not as a hobby, but as a life's work… to record my journey, my emotions and my connection to the world around me.”
‘Meditations in Monochrome’ is a retrospective of his life’s work, with images shot in both film and digital formats, and featured locations from historic Gloucester, to the San Juan Islands of Washington state, to Inverness and Concord in the San Francisco Bay area of California.
The show will run August 2nd through September 30th, with multiple Open House events.
OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, August 2nd, 1 - 4 pm AND Sunday, August 3rd, 11am – 2pm.

Cloud Shadow Studio at Riverboat Days - Summer Arts Festival 2024

2024 was our inagural entry into this popular and well-attended event, at Riverside Park, in Yankton SD. Our booth featured an array of artworks, from hand-pulled prints to digital art and hand-made, upcycle denim purses. the popular hits from our first showing were our 'Ghost Farm' digital collages and 'Feline Felicities' cat collages.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and encourages us in this, our first ever, art fair. A BIG thank you, as well, to Yankton Area Arts, the organizers of this event, and all their volunteers!

An Artists' Perspective on Modern Art

Anthony DiMichele Presents: A talk and slide show about his personal experience as an artist during the height of Abstract Expressionism and the Avant Garde; The rise of Modernism, in contrast to traditional, Realist art; and how Modernism came to dominate the art scene in the 20th century.
The slide show included many examples of both realist and abstract art, by famous and not-so-famous artists. Due to possible copywrite infringements, we are unable to share the slides or PDF version of the talk on this site.
